Rolling the dice

Dice: Shape and movement

The cube shapes of the dice are clearly visible and repeated in the image. Movement is created by the action of the hand dropping the dice and the scattered dice across the table. This makes the viewer’s eye move through the image and gives the photo a sense of action, as if the dice were just rolled/being rolled.

Leaf: Lines and movement

The veins of the leaf create strong natural lines, guiding your eyes towards the water droplet. Movement and rhythm is shown as I captured the photo at the perfect time when the water drop was about to roll off the leaf.

Heart: Value and contrast

The black and white tones show strong differences between light and dark areas, adding drama. The bright hands and wall contrast with the darker shadows and hair, making the heart shape stand out.

Succulent: Texture and emphasis

I captured the small spikes, so the plant looks rough and three-dimensional, adding interest. I emphasized the succulent by using a macro-lens so the viewers eyes are focused on the plant.

Eye: Colour and emphasis

The purple and pink lighting changes the colours of my subjects skin and eye, becoming the most noticeable feature. Having the eye in the middle of the frame draws the viewers eye towards it, heavily emphasizing it.

Gems: Colour and pattern and repetition

I used bright neon pink, purple, and blue lighting to make the marbles stand out and create a vibrant mood. Then repeated the same gems many times, creating a pattern that fills the photo and draws the viewer’s eye around it.
